Crane Collapse Leaves Dozen Dead, Thirty Injured in Thailand

(MENAFN) At least 12 people lost their lives and more than 30 sustained injuries on Wednesday when a construction crane toppled onto a passenger train in northeastern Thailand, local media outlets confirmed.

The catastrophic incident occurred in the Sikhio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thai media reported.

The passenger service traveling from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani province was passing beneath the structure when a massive crane used for high-speed rail bridge construction crashed down onto one of its carriages.

Multiple coaches jumped the tracks, and flames erupted within the mangled wreckage, leaving passengers trapped inside the burning cars.

Emergency responders raced to the disaster site and initiated rescue operations while dozens of wounded victims were transported to area hospitals.

Officials warned the fatality count may climb as several of the injured remain in critical condition.
