Thailand Suspends Oil Exports After Iran Closed Strait of Hormuz
Energy Minister Auttapol Rerkpiboon announced that an emergency energy monitoring center has been set up to track developments in the Middle East and evaluate potential impacts.
Relevant agencies have been instructed to observe effects on Thailand’s oil reserves and prices and to prepare both short- and long-term response plans.
“These include activating the oil fund to subsidize domestic fuel prices, easing pressure on consumer prices and living costs caused by rising global oil prices,” the minister said. The ministry also plans to increase natural gas production in the Gulf of Thailand, delay maintenance at gas fields, and operate coal-fired and hydropower plants at full capacity to ensure energy supply.
Auttapol confirmed that Thailand’s oil reserves remain adequate and that the ongoing situation in the Middle East has not yet affected domestic stockpiles or prices. However, the public is urged to conserve energy. As of Sunday, the country holds roughly 4.877 billion liters of crude oil and refined products, covering about 38 days of domestic demand. Including oil in transit and other sources, total reserves reach approximately 7.660 billion liters, sufficient for around 60 days of consumption.
