George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group Departs Thailand
The strike group’s visit to Phuket region and its ongoing operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations illustrate the value placed in allies and partners and the United States’ long-term commitment to the Indo-Pacific region.
“The Sailors and I had an amazing time in this beautiful country, and I sincerely thank the people of Thailand for their incredible welcome,” said Capt. Justin T. Issler, commanding officer of the George H.W. Bush. “This port visit to Phuket was a tremendous opportunity for the crew. We are grateful to our Thai allies for hosting us, and we look forward to continuing our mission here in 7th Fleet, alongside Thailand and our other regional allies and partners.”
While in Phuket, nearly 5,000 Sailors from across the strike group experienced the sights and sounds Thailand has to offer, deepening their understanding of the Thai people and strengthening interpersonal bonds. The Navy’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program worked with local Thai businesses to organize tours and events throughout the area, allowing personnel to make the most of their port visit. Through community building events, the Sailors were able to connect with local residents and experience Thai culture.
The GHWBCSG is conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. The strike group, alongside our allies and partners, is committed to an Indo-Pacific that is free and open, connected, prosperous, secure, and resilient for all nations.
